My name is Larry Vogeler and my favorite pastime is to be at our little, one-bedroom cabin on an island in the Mississippi river. I enjoy time there whether it be in the spring getting the yard ready for the inevitable spring flood, the summer and boating season, the fall, (my favorite season) to see all the animals getting ready for winter, or winter when we hike over the backwaters, do some snowshoeing, or just hunker down by the fire with a good book. I also love visiting my son and daughter in law in the hills of Tennessee.
In my professional life, I am a Customer Service Representative for Header Die & Tool. My journey started in 1971 when I was dating the owner’s daughter. I was in high school and working at a greenhouse making $1.60 an hour. Her father offered me $2.05 an hour to work for him and I jumped at the chance. Being young and ambitious, I quit after a year, hopped on my motorcycle and went to California to sow my wild oats and live the California dream. Six months later I came back to HDT, asked for my job back and attended Rock Valley Junior College. I worked my way through several departments and became lead man of the carbide department. After 20 years, Tom Derry, the previous owner, decided he wanted someone who made the tooling to quote the tooling, so I was brought into the office and here I am.
